Nintai (忍耐)
Nintai (忍耐) is a Japanese word that means patience, endurance, or perseverance — often with a strong emphasis on steadfastly pushing through difficulties, hardships, or challenges without giving up.
It's pronounced "nin-tai" (にんたい in hiragana).
忍 (nin) → to endure, to bear, to persevere (it's the same root as in "ninja," which literally refers to someone who endures or hides/endures stealthily).
耐 (tai) → to withstand, to resist, to hold out against something tough.
Together, 忍耐 conveys a quiet, resilient strength — not just passive waiting, but active, disciplined persistence and grace under pressure. It's a valued concept in Japanese culture, appearing in martial arts, Zen philosophy, Bushido (samurai code), and everyday resilience.
People often describe it as combining patience + perseverance + resilience into one powerful idea — the courage to keep going when life gets tough, staying calm and determined.
